DeLaval committed to making sustainable food production possible
The dairy sector nourishes over six billion people while providing livelihoods to one billion people around the world. In anticipation of Earth Day, DeLaval demonstrates how its expansive industry invests in our planet from an individual level to corporate involvement. The recently published 2022 DeLaval Sustainability Report displays its commitment to sustainability through three core focus areas: environment, food safety and animal welfare, and social and economic.
“Sustainability is a complex and dynamic issue to address,” said Fabian Bernal, Head of Sustainability for DeLaval Group. “Environmental, social and economics, and food safety and animal welfare are our three focus areas, but they are inextricably linked. It takes innovating from the inside out to make a difference – not just innovating within DeLaval but making it easy, accessible and profitable for producers to do the same.”
DeLaval’s commitment to progressing areas of automation, animal welfare and digitalization has furthered its effort to make the dairy industry more sustainable. Their sustainability goals are not just for the company but also for dairy producers around the world. DeLaval believes in reducing environmental impact with every liter of milk produced in a way that is good for those working on the farm and good for the animals.
Aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, DeLaval has set tangible targets for each focus area. These include:
Environment
35% reduction in emissions from energy usage by 2030
Reducing water consumption, waste and energy usage
Food Safety and Animal Welfare
Meeting standards for food and product safety
Protecting animal welfare
Social and Economic
High employee engagement and performance

DeLaval continues to invest in and strive for meeting sustainability goals to improve not only the dairy industry but the world. The company completes case studies to understand the problem and develop effective sustainability practices. To read the full report, click here.
