350“A lot of the guys at DeLaval I’ve been working with most of my life. And I always liked the install jobs, everything I’ve had installed from DeLaval, it’s clean, it’s tight, you never see any wires hanging out, you never see any shoddy work. That was one of the reasons I went with them.” – Jason Roetcisoender
The Roetcisoender Family has been dairy farming in Duvall, Washington for more than 100 years and has been milking cows at the current location since 1929. Green Acres Dairy currently milks 350 Holsteins and Jerseys with 5 DeLaval VMS V300s.
Their robots are split between the Jerseys and Holsteins, with two robots and 70 cows per box for the Jerseys and three robots with 60 cows per box for the Holsteins. Their barn is set up in a guided flow traffic system. “It just made a lot more sense to me and it seems like we’ve got a lot less fetch cows, I think the cows learn the system a little bit better,” said farm owner Jason Roetcisoender.
In deciding the next steps to take for their farm, they chose robotic milking due to labor constraints facing their dairy at the time.
“We had a ton of labor issues. The first reason that got me was how clean they [the robots] stay, I really like cleanliness. The second reason is that I thought that the indexing system on these is much better, I had heard some complaints from other robot owners that they struggled with Jerseys and I’m nearly 50% Jerseys, so I wanted something that would work for more than one size cow and the local dealership with DeLaval, I was already working with them and I like working with them too,” said Jason.
Since starting up their robots, Jason has noted that udder health has improved immensely, “The incidence of treated mastitis we are seeing is way less than before. We’ve seen a dramatic decrease in the amount of mastitis drugs that we use here.”
DeLaval Dairy Service – Washington has been serving the dairy for years and continues to support Green Aces Dairy with advisory and DelPro support and provides milk quality solutions to help the dairy reach their production goals.
I think it’s ok if he referred to DDS as DeLaval…as I think that probably how most DDS customers think of the dealership
Meet our Customer: Golob Dairy

2500“Dealer support and service all comes hand in hand. All farmers, whether you are a dairy farmer or have equipment, service is the number one priority of how things can get put together and work fine for any farm operation.” – Paul Golob
Golob Dairy started in the mid-1940s by Paul’s grandparents. Starting with a flat barn and a double 8 parlor milking into a small tank, the farm has now expanded to a DeLaval 60-bail PR3100HD rotary milking 2500 Holsteins cows in the Yakima Valley in Washington state. The milking process also includes two DeLaval teat spray robots TSR.
When it was time to transition to a new milking system, Paul Golob, owner, was deciding between a parallel parlor and rotary parlor. “I went out and looked around with one of the DeLaval reps then…the thing I saw about the rotary, it’s a cow friendly operation. [It’s] Labor efficient, and I figured that what would happen is we would probably gain another pound per cow per day just because the cows are more comfortable being milked,” said Paul.
Since installing the rotary, Paul has seen an increase in milk production and milk quality.
“The increase in milk production is mainly because we were limited to 2 times [a day milking] and over the years, actually breeding for higher production, higher solids [fat, protein] and picking those type of bulls, we were just limited to two times per day with the facilities we had. So when we went to this [the PR3100HD rotary], we went to three times per day,” said Paul. “That was the other thing, going out and looking at the rotary, you have a certain way of milking. Your time, it can’t be changed like a parallel, someone can’t make shortcuts, it’s a precise routine. It’s sure helped with the quality.”
Golob Dairy also uses two DeLaval TSRs—one for prepping the cows and the second for post-spray. “That [the TSRs] was a selling point too because it about cut two people off [the work rotation]. It’s really been working quite smoothly,” said Paul.
DeLaval Dairy Service – Washington continues to support Golob Dairy with high quality service and provides milk quality solutions to help the dairy reach their production goals.
