In 2023, Lønholm Agro in Denmark took out the title of the largest VMS batch milking setup, introducing 24 DeLaval VMS™ V310 robots—a significant upgrade for their dairy operation.

Why they switched to VMS Batch Milking: Owner Klaus Jakobsen says: “We chose this system because of its low labor requirements. One person can manage the entire milking process, which will remain consistent as we scale up. Currently, the entire farm is operated with just 6 to 8 people, compared to the 10 to 15 required for managing 1,200 to 1,400 cows using traditional methods.”

He adds that the total costs of batch milking can be comparable to, or even lower than, those of a rotary parlour. “While labor costs are increasing annually, robot and facility costs remain relatively stable. The reduced need for management and supervision made batch milking an attractive option for us.” He also notes that the cows adapted quickly to the new setup, with successful milking from day one.

Expansion plans: Looking ahead, he plans to expand the herd to 1,400 cows, highlighting his confidence in the scalability and efficiency of the DeLaval VMS V310 system."
